Start Thinking Like A Coach

Be great at getting better

Use this Puck Carrier Score Card to track Green, Yellow & Red hockey plays DURING or after gameS.

TIP #1:  Review what we define as Green, Yellow, and Red hockey plays.

Rule of Thumb:  Green = Good!  Great Green = Great!  Yellow = Ok   Red = Minimize

TIP #2:  It’s about the thought process of always striving to get better.

A player can have multiple points in a game, but that doesn’t help if you had 8 turnovers in the defensive zone…and they scored on five of them.

Focus on making good hockey plays (=Green) on a consistent basis. That is what will make you an impact player!  If you did have 8 red plays…that is okay too, as long as you learn from them and minimize them going forward.

TIP #3: Parents… Congratulate your player on making Green plays!

Ask which green play was their favorite during the game? This will help with pattern recognition and to make faster decisions next time a similar situation occurs.

Enjoy the ride & Create GREEN!!!

Strive for 80% Greens. More Greens than Yellow. Minimize/eliminate Reds.
